SCE TIP FAQ

How do I sign up for the Technology Incentive Program?
  • First, confirm your eligibility for the Technology Incentive Program by answering these three questions:

    1. Are you a SCE customer?

    2. Do you use your thermostat to control your central air conditioning?

    3. Are you actively enrolled in a qualifying Demand Response program, including Critical Peak Pricing (CPP),Capacity Bidding Program (CBP Residential), or the Demand Response Auction Mechanism (DRAM) Pilot?

  • Please select your thermostat among the eligible models.

  • Click the Enroll Now button to go to your thermostat’s enrollment site, where you’ll follow a series of simple steps to enroll. The applicant’s name must match the name on your SCE electricity account or be an authorized party on your SCE electricity account.

  • Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be enrolled in the program and evaluated for a $75 rebate. Customers enrolled with a 3rd party DR provider participating in the DRAM Pilot will only be evaluated for a $75 rebate. You will receive an email notification on your eligibility status.

  • For customers enrolling multiple locations, please contact sce-tip@energyhub.com if you need assistance verifying which accounts are enrolled.

The incentive is limited to one per service account and will not exceed $75. Customers who have more than one service account may be eligible for more than one incentive. Additional service accounts will be evaluated separately and subject to the same terms. Applying with multiple thermostats under the same service account will not increase your incentive amount.

How do I collect the $75 rebate?

If you qualify, you will receive the $75 rebate in the form of an SCE bill credit within one to two billing cycles. The rebate will be displayed as a miscellaneous adjustment within the “Your Account Summary” section of the bill.

What are the Rebate Eligibility Terms?
  • The one-time $75 rebate is limited to one per service account.

  • If you have previously received a rebate for your smart thermostat(s) in the past seven and a half (7.5) years for Demand Response participation from SCE for the same service account, you will be ineligible.

  • If SCE has issued a previous rebate for the thermostat, even if the rebate was issued to a previous owner, you will be ineligible.

  • If your SCE service account becomes inactive or you disenroll from the qualifying DR program before SCE processes your application or issues a rebate, the rebate will be cancelled.

  • If you have more than one service account (e.g., a second home or business), you may be eligible for multiple rebates but still limited to one per service account. SCE reserves the right to evaluate and provide rebates on a case-by-case basis.

  • If you received your thermostat(s) at no cost from an SCE program (e.g., the Direct Install Program), you will be ineligible.

  • SCE reserves the right to issue the $75 rebate within one to two billing cycles.

  • The Technology Incentive Program is funded by SCE customers and administered by SCE under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis until such funds are no longer available or as determined by SCE. The Technology Incentive Program may be modified or terminated without prior notice.

Can I apply to the Technology Incentive Program if my enrollment in a Qualifying DR program is pending?

No. SCE uses an automated validation process to determine eligibility. If your enrollment is not fully active in a qualifying DR program when you apply for the Technology Incentive Program, your application will be denied and you will have to reapply at a later date.

Will you manage my thermostat usage during DR events even if I don’t qualify for the rebate?

If you are enrolled in a qualifying DR program with SCE, such as CPP, you may be eligible to participate in the Technology Incentive Program and have your thermostat usage adjusted during DR events regardless of whether or not you qualify for the $75 rebate. If you are enrolled in a qualifying DR program through a 3rd Party, you will need to contact them directly to further inquire.

If I’m enrolled in a Qualifying DR Program through a 3rd Party, will SCE be adjusting my thermostat during a DR event?

No. Please contact your 3rd party DR provider for details on how your thermostat may be affected during DR events.
