Dominion Energy South Carolina FAQ

What is Dominion Energy’s Reward Hours thermostat option?
  • The thermostat option is a simple and convenient way to join Dominion Energy’s Reward Hours for customers that already own or want to purchase an eligible thermostat.

  • Reward Hours is a voluntary program where Dominion Energy rewards residential customers for managing their electricity usage certain hours of the year (we call these hours “reward hours”).

  • Reward hours can occur throughout the year but are typically scheduled when the weather is very cold (November 1 through March 31) or extremely hot (April 1 through October 31).

  • Participants agree to allow brief adjustments of thermostats during reward hours and in some cases pre-heating or pre-cooling prior to reward hours.

  • Participants will receive a $75 bill credit (per device) after successfully enrolling in the program. In addition, participants will receive a $25 bill credit each year following the anniversary of their enrollment in the program.

  • Enjoy even more potential savings by joining our You Shift/You Save Plan.

How will I know if I’m eligible to enroll?

To be eligible to enroll, you must:

  • Be a Dominion Energy South Carolina residential electric customer and the electric service is in your name.

  • Use a qualified internet-connected thermostat to control a heat pump, and/or approved electric heating source employing primary or backup electric resistance heating elements.

  • Allow Dominion Energy to make brief, small thermostat adjustments during reward hours.

Is there a limit to the number of thermostats I can enroll in the program?

You may enroll as many eligible devices into the program as you would like. However, a maximum of three devices per household are eligible to receive incentives.

What is my enrollment incentive?

You will receive a one-time $75 bill credit after successfully enrolling in the program (one bill credit per device).

Where can I find the Terms and Conditions for the program?
How do I enroll my thermostat in Dominion Energy’s Reward Hours program?
  • If you have an existing thermostat, please select your thermostat among the eligible models. Then click the Enroll Now button to go to your thermostat’s enrollment site, where you will follow a series of simple steps to enroll.

  • If you don’t have an eligible thermostat, please choose a qualifying model, purchase and install it. Once you have it installed and activated, come back to enroll your new thermostat in the program.

  • Once your eligibility is confirmed by Dominion Energy, you will be enrolled in the program. You will receive notification on your enrollment status via email using the address provided in your account registration.

How will I know that a temperature adjustment is in progress?

Depending on your thermostat provider, notifications will appear on the thermostat or in your web/mobile application.

When are reward hours scheduled and how long do they last?
  • We anticipate reward hours to be scheduled 2-5 days during cooling season and 7-10 days during heating season. However, reward hours may be scheduled more or less days, depending on conditions.

  • Reward hours are typically 2-3 hours in duration and occur between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. during the heating season and between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the cooling season. It is possible that reward hours may occur at different times.

  • No more than 80 reward hours per season will occur.

How will my thermostat be adjusted?
  • Reward hours will last no more than 4 consecutive hours, but typically last 2-3 hours.

  • Prior to reward hours, your thermostat may be adjusted down or up slightly to pre-cool or pre-heat your home so that you remain comfortable during reward hours.

  • At the start of reward hours, your thermostat may be automatically adjusted a maximum of 4 degrees above or below the current temperature setting, but typically only adjusted 3 degrees.

  • Once the reward hours are over, your thermostat will return to its normal set point and/or schedule.

Will participating in the program compromise my comfort?

Maintaining your comfort is a top priority of the Reward Hours program. If you ever feel uncomfortable you will always retain control of your thermostat and can easily opt out at any time for any reason without penalty.

Am I allowed to opt out of reward hours?

Yes. During reward hours, you can opt out at any time for any reason from your thermostat, mobile device or web app without penalty.

Can I be enrolled in Reward Hours as well as a Time-Of-Use rate plan?

Yes! Check out our You Shift/You Save Plan.

What is the You Shift/You Save Plan?
  • The You Shift/You Save Plan (Rate 5-TOU) is a voluntary rate available to residential customers.

  • Under this plan, you will be charged different amounts for the electricity you use depending on when you use it throughout the day.

  • This rate enables you to save money if you shift your electricity usage away from the high-demand hours (“on-peak hours”).

  • The more you shift your electricity usage away from on-peak hours, the more potential you have to save.

  • Pairs perfectly with Reward Hours.

Can I be enrolled in the “home” option and the “thermostat” option for Reward Hours?

No. By enrolling in the Reward Hours thermostat option, you will automatically be unenrolled from the “home” option if you are currently participating in that option.

What if I no longer want to participate in the program?

Send an email to dominionenergysc@energyhub.com requesting to end your participation in the program. Once you have been taken off the program, your thermostat(s) will no longer be enrolled, and you will not receive the annual participation incentive.
